After Kevin received a heart transplant, his doctors required him to live near the hospital for several weeks until they determined him stable enough to return home.  The hotel expense would total thousands of dollars, which he and his wife couldn’t afford, so they applied to Heartfelt Help Foundation’s lodging program for assistance.  HHF was established to help financially challenged heart transplant patients with transplant related expenses that insurance doesn’t cover, so an early step always is to review the insurance.  Following our mentoring about how to determine whether a patient’s insurance policy covers a particular type of expense, Kevin’s wife found coverage for recovery lodging, meals, and related expenses.  She wrote this message of thanks:

“Well, we have been home since before Christmas and we got a call today that our insurance claim has been approved by Anthem through a funding company, I believe. She told me to send in all of our receipts plus the form she sent me, so we are getting reimbursed for everything (I think) that is what she said anyway. Well food reimbursement is $75 per day for both of us (I believe). Once I send in all of the receipts, we can tell what we got paid for. But without your help, it would have cost us $10,000! So we are very grateful for your knowledge and your help! Kevin is doing well.  Kind of just laying low for now and staying away from outsider germs!  Thank you again for all of your help and hope you have a happy and healthy new year!”
